Yeah my title is just an epic one in a million play on words I know! Wink.
It is Monday and who can be stuffed cooking on a Monday? Probably not myself. So tonight I decided it was a burger night. Jus Burger was just the thing. A five minute walk from my place and as I remembered it is always a good feed.
Jus Burgers was started about four years back by Justin Bell an accomplished Chef from the UK whom I have had the pleasure of working with. Years ago Justin was the Head Chef of 44 King Street (now closed) but in its hay day 44KS was a restaurant that was one of the first places in Perth to get really good food. It was the one the place that experimented the most with ingredients and I can not say I ever had a bad meal there - even the staff meals were nice. Suffice to say Justin is an amazing Chef.
I ordered three items. The first was the slaw with aioli. This was delicious, crunchy and fresh. Obviously the presence of the aioli made it quite a rich dish but what is the point of slaw without aioli. There were two other types of slaw available - spanish slaw and middle eastern slaw. I kept it traditional tonight.
For my burger I chose a cheese burger with swiss cheese, added mushrooms and horseradish on a wholewheat roll. This was pretty yummy. The horseradish bit through the cheesiness and added to the overall flavour well. The salad was fresh and was a nice contrast in texture. It was a good burger all round. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to ask for the beef to be cooked medium as opposed to well done. Note: the default cooking time is well done. I just felt the meat was a tad on the dry side.
Lastly I had to try the onion rings. To be honest by this stage this was far too much food for me and I probably only ate one or two of the rings but they sounded so good. Big rings of white onion battered and deep fried. Ten out of ten. Naughty but nice. **Added as an afterthought - the onion rings were awesome cold. I know that sounds odd but seriously they were delicious. Salty and chewy. Yum**
I noticed that quite a few of the people in Jus Burger Northbridge were on their way to the theatre. What a good way to start the week!
