For over a year I have been meaning to write a review about Beluga Claremont the restaurant. It has been one of my on going consistent favourites for a couple of years now since its opening. I remember my first thought was that a restaurant on the edge of a shopping centre just couldn't be good. And I was very wrong.
Today I went to Beluga with a friend for lunch. The place was a little empty but thats how everywhere is on a Tuesday afternoon. We arrived just past lunch time so perhaps it had been busier prior. I know that in the evenings the place is buzzing.
Our waitress was lovely. A Scottish girls with a lilting accent. She brought us our wine and we ordered our food. I noticed that the menu had changed but it still looked to die for. I see now on the website that the menu changes seasonally which is always a smart move.
We settled on a few dishes to share between us. First we ordered the New Norcia Ciabatta with rosemary oil and salt. This is bread is some of the best bread in Perth. It is so naughty so therefore so tasty. I could eat the whole loaf!
Next was the prawns - Shark Bay Prawns with chilli and garlic. We got a serve each as there was two prawns per dish. Mind you they were big prawns and they were served with a jerusalem artichoke puree and pickled radish. I highly recommend this dish. It is small but filling!
I chose the salmon gravelax. Wow this dish was heavenly. It comprised of super fresh salmon cut into slithers and placed onto a place so it formed a circle. It was served with mini cubes of beetroot and creme fresh with dill. This dish was from the specials list so I cant say it will be there again or often but if it is try it. Divine.
Lastly we had a side of green beams with cumin crumbs and labne. These, once again, were lovely. They were cooked just right and the labne was a nice contrast to the salty, olive oil covered beans. If I lived in the area I would probably get this regularly as a meal in themselves. But then I am a bit of a freak when it comes to veggies. Love the stuff.
We really enjoyed our lunch. The food was outstanding and the service was friendly and efficient. Bookings are recommended in the evening but if you are out shopping at the Quarter make sure you pop in for a graze or a full on lunch. Beluga is the best.
