Today however I met a good friend there for breakfast. For the record the interior is lovely! Once seated I looked at the menu and mentally kicked myself for not having gone there months ago. I mean seriously! I wanted everything on offer! The menu was a brunch menu which is quite unusual in Perth. Most places stick to either breakfast or lunch. The brunch concept was awesome. Some of the dishes such as the Nasi Goreng were certainly more of a lunch item as were the house pies - which I believe to be a speciality of Tuck Shop.
We received our coffees very quickly upon arrival which was great! I think both of us needed a caffeine hit this morning and a caffeine hit we got. Really well made coffees at the perfect temperature.
It was truly hard to make the decision of what to eat. I don't usually have a sweet tooth but today I fancied something decadent. So I ordered the mixed berry pancakes with mascapone, fresh strawberries and maple syrup. Talk about yummy!!! The pancakes were packed with berries - blue berries and raspberries. They were fluffy and well cooked and looked so pretty with the fresh red strawberries sliced on top. There was no way I could eat the entire dish but that was not for lack of want!
My girlfriend had the Mushrooms with fetta on sourdough toast. This came with a poached egg also and it was very generous with the fetta! I love mushrooms so this looked delicious. The egg looked quite well cooked which in my view is a very good thing. When poached eggs are too runny I think it is dismal.
The service at The Tuck Shop was lovely. It was really personal and friendly. There is a lady there with red hair who is just darling.
I highly recommend The Tuck Shop. Yes the hype is true. I will most certainly become a regular as I need to try everything. I am looking forward to it.
