Il Lido is located on prime land in Cottesloe on Marine Terrace. It is set up canteen style with a choice of long share tables or elevated bar seats for a little more dine and dash style dinning.
I have long been a fan of this restaurant with its ever changing menu. While they don't really break any new ground food wise they take enough risks to ensure the choice is interesting.
My sister and I started with the King Fish Carpaccio. King Fish is my favourite of all the fishes that are to be eaten raw. The Carpaccio was cured with lemon and olive oil and was adorned with little bits of red grape fruit and thin slices of the reddest chilli. The chilli broke through the citrus flavour and gave it a bit of kick. I could have eaten 3 serves. One to share just was not enough.
For our main meal Gabrielle had the salmon salad and I had the cauliflower and artichoke tortollini.
Gabrielle's salad was basically a Nicoise with salmon as opposed to tuna. It looked delicious - a very colourful dish. The salmon looked a little too cooked through for my taste but Gabs seemed very satisfied with it. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the olive tapenade that featured throughout was not over powering.
My meal was unbelievable. 4 Large tortollini filled with a puree of artichoke. They were served in a butter sauce with pan fried cauliflower, cashews and baby spinach topped with goats cheese. It was a rich dish that would appeal to salt lovers, of which I am one, and the serving size was spot on. I would go back for this again it was so tasty. It was nice to see an interesting take on a dish that has been known to be quite unsurprising in the past.
As a side dish (and so I could pretend to be remotely healthy) we ordered the beans with chilli and garlic. These were good although a little too acidic and slightly over cooked. Not quite al-dente. There was no mention of lemon on the menu and considering how much was used mentioning it should have been a must.
These meals paired with an Italian white wine for me and a French Pinot for Gabrielle had us both in a very happy place. A view of the Ocean and how can you go wrong. Really.
